The northern edge of Monrovia borders the Angeles National Forest, and Monrovia Canyon Park - a city-owned wilderness area in the foothills with hiking trails and a waterfall - draws both residents and visitors regularly. Properties along the northern hillside streets have the mountain backdrop that defines Monrovia's identity but also face the practical challenges of slope, drainage, and fire exposure that flat-valley homes do not. The city sits along the 210 Freeway corridor, which connects it westward toward Pasadena and eastward toward the Inland Empire.
